Phantom vibration syndrome: why you feel your phone buzz

Sembilan dari sepuluh pengguna ponsel pernah mengalaminya. Otak sengaja menurunkan ambang alarm supaya tidak ketinggalan pesan, jadi gesekan kain pun terasa seperti getaran.

Penjelasannya

Transkrip video (English)

You felt your phone vibrate in your pocket. You pull it out: zero messages, zero notifications.

You aren't imagining things, and you aren't alone: nine out of ten smartphone users experience this regularly.

Scientists call it Phantom Vibration Syndrome. And the glitch isn't in your phone: it's in your brain.

Your sensory cortex is flooded with thousands of tiny sensations: clothes rubbing against your leg, or minor muscle spasms.

Because your brain is constantly anticipating dopamine from incoming texts, it sets its alert threshold razor thin.

Your brain calculates that checking an empty phone costs nothing, but missing an urgent call costs a lot.

So it deliberately turns the friction of your jeans into a phantom notification, just in case.
