GeeGit Explains · Pikiran & Tubuh

Kenapa waktu terasa makin cepat saat makin tua?

Why does time go faster as you get older?

Setahun bagi anak 5 tahun adalah 20% hidupnya, bagi orang 50 tahun cuma 2%. Rutinitas juga membuat otak menyimpan lebih sedikit kenangan baru.

Penjelasannya

Waktu umur delapan tahun, libur sekolah terasa tak berujung. Sekarang, setahun lewat seperti sekejap. Kenapa waktu terasa makin cepat seiring bertambahnya usia?

Pertama, matematikanya.

Masa kecil penuh hal pertama: sepeda pertama, sekolah pertama, laut pertama. Masa dewasa didominasi rutinitas. Ketika hidup mudah ditebak, otak memampatkan rekamannya. Mau waktu terasa lebih lambat? Pecahkan rutinitas dan coba hal baru.

When you were eight years old, summer holidays felt like they lasted forever. Today, whole years vanish in a blink.

Why does time literally feel like it accelerates as you get older?

First, the math: to a five-year-old, a single year represents a massive twenty percent of their entire existence.

To a fifty-year-old, that exact same year is just two percent. Proportionally, it feels ten times shorter.

Second, your brain: your mind measures time by how many brand-new memories it creates.

Childhood is packed with firsts: first bike, first school, first ocean. Adulthood is dominated by repetitive routines.

When life becomes predictable, your brain compresses the tape. Want to slow time down? Break your routine and try new things.
